There are countless BBQ spots in Seoul offering a wide variety of cuts and meats. But rarely you’ll find a restaurant specializing in one single cut of meat as their lone menu item. Well, here at Yongma Galbi the husband-wife team has defied the odds (and standard business practices) by serving mouthwatering dweji galbi (pork ribs) for over 35 years. The aging owner (who is slightly hard of hearing) will dole out instructions and, if needed, will help out personally as to avoid overcooking the precious meat. Combined with freshly made banchan prepped by the hardworking halmoni, it’s one of the more memorable BBQ experiences because the meat is spot on sweet, savory, succulent – and the humble decor gives off a family-like vibe that you’ll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. If you find yourself somewhere north of the river, it’s well worth a visit for some great Korean BBQ in a no-frills, homey atmosphere.
