Here is another decent (and fairly new) restaurant that my girlfriend and I stumbled upon serving a Korean fusion dish called Hamburg Steak, which is basically Salisbury steak Korean-style. I grew up eating a healthy dose of this in Iowa (the awesome microwave version) so I knew I was in for a treat. In addition, these are essentially the same as hamburger patties with a few more seasonings to the mix (meaning they’re really hard to screw up).
We made the short trek over to the City Hall area and we got to it. We ordered the Tomato Hamburg Steak Set and the Bacon Steak Set for a very respectable 10,000 and 8,000 won, respectively. I must admit, both dishes were pretty darn good with well-balanced portions. At first glance, I thought my thin nuggets of steak were going to be dry and tasteless (hint: accompanied by three dipping sauces) but surprisingly they were very tender and good enough to eat without the sauces. As for the ladyfriend’s Hamburg Steak, it was juicy, moist, and made better with the melted cheese and tomato sauce. Throw in the other sides plus the standard rice and soup, and we really had a filling and satisfying meal.
As mentioned earlier, the place is fairly new (about a month), but when we arrived around 2 pm on a weekday, we were surprised to find it pretty packed with a younger crowd. We’re not sure if it was great word of mouth or great location (maybe both?), but we’ll be probably back when we get tired of our usual Korean fare. Originating in the southern city of Busan, they have two locations in Seoul. The official website has directions and hours of operation (link below).
