Sodam Chon Shabu Shabu 사돔촌 샤브샤브 (West Side of Seoul)

Here’s another decent place for those who like Shabu Shabu 샤브샤브 and Vietnamese Spring Rolls 월남쌈 located near Digital Media City Station, a few stops from Hongik Station. It’s a buffet-style setup and you can choose from several options: basic, basic + mushrooms, basic + Hanwoo, etc. My girlfriend and I got the basic, which included chadol baki (thin slices of meat), a starter salad, kalguksu (noodles), and juk (porridge) for only 13,000 won per person during their dinner hours. If you can believe it, their lunch time special is only 10,000 won. In my opinion, you probably won’t find a better place for the price value, and their selection of fresh ingredients (promoting a “well-being” concept) is pretty solid. Other positives include free “refills” on everything except the meat, three different sauces for the wraps, and one of my favorites, meshil juice (Korean sweet plum).

Just my two cents: don’t waste your money on expensive Shabu Shabu joints like I’ve done in the past. The presentation might be attractive and all, but there’s no need to waste money on food that you essentially cook for yourself.
