|Pajeon (Scallion Pancake)|
Coming in at #8 is one of our personal favorites haemul pajeon (seafood & scallion pancakes) despite being an appetizer dish. This is probably the most popular Korean appetizer for its simplistic and nostalgic qualities, where you will often find this served with traditional liquors (soju, makkeolli) and beer at bars and restaurants alike. We like it because it can be made easily within minutes and without a lot of hard-to-find ingredients. The main ingredient pa (scallions/green onion) is mandatory, but you will most likely find haemul (seafood) and variations of greens and vegetables. Along with the pancakes, an accompanying dipping sauce is a must. It can be made quick and easy by mixing soy sauce, vinegar, and a few other seasonings/spices depending on taste preference. We like our dipping sauce a tad sweet so we add some sugar and garnish with one of the following: sesame seeds, gochugaru (red pepper flakes), diced onion and/or green onion.
